Stateside Tuning is THE place for Type 4 Engines and components. There are few people in the UK with as much knowledge as Jim - Statesides owner. Jim succesfully campaigns a 914 Porsche in the classic race series where his work on Type 4 engines is tested to the limit. Jim is responsible for putting the Type 4 unit for my Ghia together, pictures of which can be seen in the Gallery. If you are serious about a Type 4 unit then I highly reccomend his work.
TopDTA Engine Management Systems
DTA are the manufacturers of the EFI unit that I'm using in the Ghia. They are a UK based company with a proven track record in the EFI field. DTA can also supply EFI parts and accessories such as trigger wheels, injectors coils and sensors. The trigger wheel I'm using on the Ghia is a modified DTA item.
L.N. Engineering is a USA based company that manufactures 911 style aluminium cylinders for use in VW engines. The cylinders are nikasil plated to allow them to be used with aluminium pistons. They also produce bi-metal aluminium and iron composite barrels.
Type Three Detectives cater for all variants of the Type 3 family, Type 34 Ghias included. Although primarily dealing with the rest of the model range, they do from time to time come across Type 34 only spares. They are invaluable for mechanical spares as the running gear is shared between all of the Type 3 range. visit their new improved web page.
Lars Neuffer is a well known supplier of Type 34 Ghia parts, he is also the owner of one of the original convertible prototype cars, if you are looking for rubber parts, or maybe some hard to find parts Lars may be the man to see. There is an online store where you can check the current stock.
John Maher Racing is one of the best known VW tuning names in the country, well respected throughout the industry, and has experience with all types of VW tuning, from mild street cars to all out Turbo'd, Nitrous'd, Fuel Injected drag cars. A friendly guy, who is always happy to share his experiences, if you can manage to catch him.
The Karmann Ghia Company of Australia are based in Walliston in WA, They offer restoration services and parts with online parts pages displaying some of the parts available. They also manufacture a lot of the parts themselves, including reproduction Hazet toolboxes.
Street Style and Power is run by Barney and Paul (Ex Big Boys Toys) and is affiliated with VW Heritage. They offer pretty much anything you need for a VW from an oil change kit to a turn key motor. All of the Heratige range of products is also available. They offer an online store and as always good friendly advice - these boys know thier stuff and have helped me out many a time. Highly reccomended - go check them out!
The Ebay trading forum is supposedly the largest trading post on the internet, they always seem to have a host of VW parts on offer both from commercial and private vendors. The parts can be bought by bidding on them as you would at an auction. This link will take you to the Type 34 parts currently listed.
This is a German company that supplies many Type 34 only parts including rubber seals, trim items and various other parts. They supply both original and reproduction parts as well as some god used items.
MBT Engineering are a german company that manufacture brake and suspension conversion components for Porsche, VW and Audis. MBT manufacture various conversion kits for different cars but specifcally msake kits for using Porsche 944 / 996 front brakes and rotors on standard VW spindles and also kits for converting standard VW IRS to use coil overs and / Porsche 944 turbo aluminium rear suspension arms.
Remmele Motorsport are another innovative German company who produce various kits for VW's. Their product lineup is very similar to that offered by MBT, although Remmele's site is in english and has prices. Remmele also offer a rear suspension kit for converting to Porsche 944 aluminium rear suspension arms.
Sharpbuilt is run by Mike Sharp and is based in Queensland. Mike is well versed in the use of the Type 4 engine and can supply complete turn key units for a reasonable price too. He also supplies Porsche 911 fan conversions for both Type 4 and Type 1 units which is how I came across him. Sharpbuilt are probably more well known for their dune buggies which they can supply in kit form or as a drive away turn key finished car. I found Mike to be a very helpful guy. I would definately reccomend him.
Swan Porsche parts is a very handy resource for new and used Porsche stuff. The guys there are super helpfull too. Based in Western Australia, they post Australia wide and no doubt further afield too. I cannot recommend them enough.
