My Mark 2 Jaguar is for sale.
I bought this with the intention of restoring it but have since found another project - a 1962 VW 15 Window Deluxe Splitscreen Microbus
The Jag is remarkably rust free (the rust you can see is just surface rust where the paint was removed) there is a little rust in the rear edge of the front wings and the front corner of the front doors that could do with patching, but the chassis rails are solid, as are the sills and boot floor area. There is a dent in the drivers sill that needs to get panel beaten out - it looks like the car was lowered on to something and has pushed the sill in.
The paintwork was partially removed by the past owners neice who beleived she was helping as the owner intended to restore it. Unfortunately the owner passed away without ever getting to finish the car.
I was in the process of getting it roadworthy - This is what I have done to the car since having it
I had the brake master cylinder re-sleeved.
Fitted a new solid state fuel pump.
Sourced and fitted good replacement radiator.
Replaced the water hoses with new silicone hoses .
Fitted new plugs, points, leads and dizzy cap.
Removed front brightwork ready for painting
Sourced replacement horn push and rear number plate light chrome surround
Sourced a new front badge
The engine is running, although it needs a new choke cable, and apart from the servo needing reconditioning it drives.
My intention was to get it roadworthy, paint it, iron out the bugs and use it as a daily driver - with the intention of a full retrim further down the track.
I am led to beleive that the engine has been rebuilt, the engine certainly sounds ok - it doesn't sound tappety - which these are prone to doing as setting the tappets is a fairly complex thing and so usually neglected. As with all of these snippets of info - they are always hard to prove - so I won't claim it's had an engine rebuild- I just pass the info on. The brakes also look like they have had some attention at some point as the calipers have all been painted.
The brightwork is passable and cleans up quite well, although if you wanted a show car you would probably look at getting it rechromed / repolished. All 4 correct hubcaps are fitted, on the correct wheels - there is also a correct type spare. The font and rear bumpers and overriders are undented. All lights are present and correct, and the grille is in very good shape. There appears to be some side trim missing.and possibly the screen trim - the rear reversing light cowl was broken but I managed to source a good spare.
The interior is in need of a complete restoration, the headlining needs replacing, the seats recovering, doorcards and carpets replacing and the woodwork needs refinishing.
This car is a good restoration project as all of the work is simply cosmetic - It is very solid - It runs, and will be little work to get roadworthy.
The car is a manual 2.4 non overdrive and it is in Adelaide.
