This Saturday I went to take a look at the Adelaide Classic. Apart from having an obvious interest in classic cars, the company that I work for were sponsoring a Mustang run by some of the guys we do work for at BHP Billiton, so myself and a work colleague headed down to Macclesfield to hopefully hook up with them at the lunchtime stop in the town centre.Having been in Adelaide for some three and a half years now, it was the first time that I had ventured out to watch the classic. With hundreds of contestants, it was certainly impressive. There were a wide range of cars, from the everyday to the exotic all represented in some form or other.
The VW marque was represented by Debiassi Motorsport in their green bug (an Adelaide based VW company that I have used in the past) as well as by a few others.
The most entered car seemed to be the 911, with more 911's than any other marque that I counted and most of those early models.
The car of the day for me was the Bizzarrini GT, a rare Italian supercar designed by an ex Ferrarri / Lamborghini engineer. I had not seen one of these before, which is little wonder as only a handfull were produced. It had unfortunately suffered a bit of a prang - an expensive mistake on a $1.5M car!!!
After looking at all of the cars we found the works Mustang with the bonnet up - they were replacing a throttle cable that has started to go sticky due to the under-bonnet heat. After the weekends racing they went on to finish 24th position overall and 8th in class.
